Abstract

In order to investigate the operating possibilities in-situ burning of oil spills with high content of sulfur compounds, in this work the evaporation process of hydrogen sulfide from sulfurous oil from Tengiz field was studied as well as characteristics of its combustion on the water surface. The variation analysis of sulfur percentage in oil residue after burning is carried out. The conducted studies have shown that overall combustion process of sour oil has not significant differences on stability of flame spreading, on variation of combustion temperature from combustion process of the oil which is free of hydrogen sulfide. The principal difference is that the combustion process of sour oil leads to increase of sulfur concentration in oil residue after burning. The increase of sulfur concentration is explained by the formation of stable-bounded sulfur - containing compounds that forming in hydrogen sulfide reactions and hydrocarbon compounds of oil at high combustion temperatures.
