APPLICATION OF AN AIR-WATER CURTAIN TO SUPPRESS THE DESTRUCTIVE IMPACT OF A SHOCK WAVE AND FIRES

In practice, there are often cases in which accidental emissions of gaseous hydrocarbons occur at industrial facilities, leading to the accumulation of a flammable atmosphere. Often, the accumulation of explosive gases leads to their explosion, and as a result, to the destruction of structures and the death of people. In this review, summarized data are presented on the basis of the analysis of studies on the use of an air-water curtain to reduce the damaging impact of a shock wave in the combustion and explosion of gaseous hydrocarbons and condensed substances. The results on the use of an air-water curtain for weakening the force of a shock wave in explosions of fuel-air mixtures and for suppressing the strength of a shock wave in the explosion of solid condensed systems are shown. A generalized analysis of the effect of the size of water droplets on the effectiveness of fire suppression and shock wave suppression is presented, as well as the results of practical experiments on the use of an air-water curtain for extinguishing fires and suppressing the impact of a shock wave. Numerical calculations of the interaction of a shock wave and an air-water curtain are considered in the article.
