Abstract

The paper presents the results of studies on the initiation of gas combustible mixtures with the help of external initiators, the energy release of which during the transfer of the initiator’s energy to the mixture is characterized by finite (nonzero) temporal and spatial scales. The main results are discussed. It is shown that by acting on the temporal and spatial characteristics of the energy input fromthe initiator, one can noticeably change the value of the critical energy required to excite self-sustaining combustion and detonation waves in the mixture and is considered the main parameter by which the fire and explosion hazard of combustible mixtures is assessed: E+ the less, the more the mixture is dangerous.
