The paper presents the research results of rapeseed methyl esters (RME) and mineral diesel fuel (DF) droplet combustion process in air. The influence of equivalence oxygen-fuel ratio α* on droplet burning time tг is considered within the framework of the adiabatic shell fuel droplet burning model. Experimental verification of the results was carried out at atmospheric pressure in the range of oxidant-fuel ratio of 1.7 to 4. It is shown that in the entire range of α*, the RME droplet combustion time was lower than for diesel fuel drops by 10%, all other things being equal. This result indirectly explains the combustion efficiency increasing effect of biofuels compared to diesel fuel, observed in the bench test, which is especially important when using the diesel motor in high-load.
